What is FSSAI- full meaning?

A mandatory element of the Foods business is the FSSAI Registration or Food License. The FSSAI term refers to “Food Safety and Standard Authority of India“ and effective from 2006 all the Food related acts have now come under the FSSAI.

What is FSSAI Registration | FSSAI License?

FSSAI Registration is basically a 14 digit registration number which is used by the Food related business & printed on the food products with license number.

FSSAI Registration is required for each type of the business whether it’s a trader or manufacturer or import export or dairy farms etc.

Type of FSSAI Registration | License

There are mainly x 3 type of the Food License or FSSAI License category which is needed by each food related business.

​a) FSSAI Basic Registration – FSSAI Basic Registration is required by the small business which have turnover less than 12 lakh rupees in a year.

b) FSSAI State License Registration -If you have already the FSSAI Basic Registration and cross the turnover of the 12 lakh rupees in a year but less than Rs 20 Cr then its required the FSSAI State License Registration.

c) FSSAI Central License Registration -If you are starting Import Export business or want to supply at the Government Department then you are  required to have the FSSAI Central License Registration.

The scale of the Annual turnover has to be more than Rs 20 Cr. in a year.

What is Food and Safety department?

The Food and Safety Department is related to the FSSAI Department. It   provide the scientific and technical support to the Central Govt regarding the food related articles. Its act as collection of the food related data consumption with general awareness about the Food Safety and Food Standards.

FSSAI Registration Form

The FSSAI Registration or Food License has mainly 2 type of the forms i.e – the Form A/ Form B.

  1. Form A for basic FSSAI Registration – The Form A is the basic FSSAI registration form filled up by the Food business operator. Itcomprisesof FBOs Business activities.
  2. Form B for State FSSAI Registration – The Form B is required for the State Food License Registration. It’s a mandatory form with the required above documents for the state license registration.

Validity of FSSAI License

The FSSAI License is issued by the Food Department for 1-2 year validity. After that there is renewal process of FSSAI License with some additional fees.

  1. If any Food operator is operating in more than 10 state then they require the Central Govt. registration for their registered office.

  2. If Importers or exporters apply for the FSSAI Registration then they will need IEC Codebefore the Food License & have to apply on the same address.

  3. The brand owner have to display the FSSAI Logo and License number on the food package.
